Join to apply for the Chief People Officer role at Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust
Our incredible Chief People Officer is now leaving us, and we’re looking for someone to build on her foundation to maintain our focus on creating a compassionate, inclusive culture that delivers our People Promise to everyone who works with us and supports us in providing the best quality, safest care to our communities, while also growing the workforce of the future and delivering the NHS’s Long Term Workforce Plan.
This is a critical role, reporting to our Chief Executive and serving as a voting member of our board. You will have the experience to develop, implement, and deliver our people and workforce strategy. With experience at or near board level, you will understand the importance of forging effective partnerships with our staff and system partners to drive change.
As Chief People Officer, you will lead efforts to build an inclusive culture where everyone feels safe, healthy, and supported. This not only improves patient care but also underpins our long-term workforce strategy to attract, recruit, retain, and develop staff to deliver better care for the people of Torbay and South Devon.
We believe in improving through inclusion, listening, and acting on feedback. As the executive lead for Freedom to Speak Up, you will advocate for giving our staff a safe space and voice, working with them to embed change within our organization.
Why Work With Us
We have over 6,000 dedicated staff delivering compassionate health and social care across more than 15 sites, including Torbay Hospital. Thanks to their efforts, we are among the top NHS hospital trusts in cancer performance and have met the faster diagnosis standard for over 16 months.
Our plans to implement a new electronic patient record by 2026 will transform information sharing, care delivery, and efficiency. A key responsibility of the CPO is to review workforce cost efficiencies, working closely with the Finance and Recovery Directors to ensure the workforce’s true value is understood, and operational plans deliver both patient care and value for money. The CPO will also collaborate with NHS colleagues in Devon, exploring opportunities for greater integration, such as the upcoming HR Digital programme in Spring 2025.
