AMHP Team Manager – Richmond & Wandsworth Councils
Salary: £48,873 – £59,220 per annum
Additional Allowances: £3,000 AMHP allowance + £3,000 Recruitment & Retention payment (paid every 2 years)
Contract: Permanent, Full-time
Hours: Monday to Friday (daytime role – no out-of-hours)
Location: Richmond & Wandsworth (hybrid – 40% office-based)
About the Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated AMHP Team Manager to lead the daytime Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) Service across Richmond and Wandsworth Councils.
You will provide strong professional and operational leadership, ensuring that high-quality, lawful, and effective services are delivered in line with the Mental Health Act (MHA) and related legislation.
This is a daytime-only role (Monday–Friday), offering a balanced workload, excellent professional support, and hybrid working arrangements.
About the Team
You will be managing a well-established and skilled multidisciplinary team, consisting of:
 * 
 1x Team Manager
 * 
 1x Assistant Team Manager
 * 
 2x Senior Social Worker AMHPs
 * 
 6x Social Worker AMHPs
 * 
 2x Support Staff
In addition, AMHPs from other teams provide regular input into the service, ensuring a strong, collaborative network across both boroughs.
Key Responsibilities
 * 
 Lead and manage the Richmond and Wandsworth daytime AMHP service.
 * 
 Provide supervision, leadership, and professional development for all AMHP staff.
 * 
 Oversee statutory functions and ensure compliance with the Mental Health Act and related legislation.
 * 
 Work in partnership with mental health trusts, police, ambulance services, and other agencies.
 * 
 Support service improvement initiatives and performance monitoring.
 * 
 Maintain robust safeguarding standards and contribute to training and mentoring AMHP trainees.
 * 
 Carry out Mental Health Act assessments as required.
About You
To be successful, you will need:
 * 
 Social Work England registration
 * 
 Approved AMHP qualification, or approval within the last 5 years
 * 
 Up-to-date knowledge of the Mental Health Act, Care Act, and Mental Capacity Act
 * 
 Experience of leading or supervising teams within adult mental health or AMHP services
 * 
 Excellent partnership working and communication skills
