As experts in developing rigid plastic packaging containers, we are the UK market leader in blow moulding HDPE plastic bottles, supplying over a billion bottles every year to the liquid food and drink market. Reporting to the CEO, this role will provide operational leadership across all SHEQ functions for the group, ensuring compliance with UK legislation, industry standards and internal policies. This is a hands‑on role to drive the Quality, Safety, Health and Environmental agenda to ensure efficient operations whilst embedding a culture of proactive risk management, staff accountability and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
* To develop, implement and maintain SHEQ managements systems in alignment with ISO 9001, ISO14001 and ISO 45001 standards, BRC and other external standards the business subscribes to.
* Maintain the Quality Management System in line with ISO 9001 and deliver a rolling programme of internal audits across safety, environmental and quality systems, escalating systemic risks to senior management.
* Carry out audits at all sites with respect to quality, housekeeping and hygiene and document the findings in the required format to meet the relevant standards.
* To ensure all procedures relating to quality and hygiene are correctly adhered to at all times and are continually enhanced and updated.
* Maintain product, systems & audit requirements for BRC Agents & Brokers certification.
* Undertake Internal and External audits of systems, processes and Food Safety of our products and liaise with external accreditation bodies.
* Have and maintain a clear understanding of the Food Contact Regulations for Plastics and operate a Lab testing protocol with the factories, in order to provide a Declaration of Compliance (legal requirement).
* Responsible for managing workplace health and safety by conducting and updating comprehensive risk assessments across manufacturing processes, equipment and materials; maintaining a risk register; and overseeing incident reporting and investigations.
* Developing and communicating health and safety policies, ensuring legal compliance, advising staff at all levels, reporting to senior management, promoting a strong safety culture through effective communication and leadership.
* Lead incident, accident and near‑miss investigations, including root cause analysis.
* Carry out regular site inspections and internal audits for the Group, documenting findings and tracking corrective actions.
* Keep abreast of current health, safety, environmental and food safety legislation to identify, monitor and address trends and emerging risks.
* Monitor environmental compliance, maintain records, identify environmental risks, and implement measures to reduce environmental impact.
* Promote sustainability initiatives, support environmental performance targets and educate employees on waste reduction and resource conservation.
Qualifications
* Proven experience in a SHEQ management role, ideally within a food manufacturing/high-volume manufacturing environment.
* NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent
* Membership of IOSH
* Flexibility to travel to other sites within the group including overnight stays away from home.
