North Lanarkshire Council are seeking to appoint a self motivated and enthusiastic individual with responsibility for enhancing biodiversity and conservation within our country parks and greenspaces. You will have principal accountabilities for delivering and reviewing North Lanarkshire’s Local Biodiversity Action Plan and responsibility for ensuring the Council’s duties under the Nature Conservation (Scotland) Act and other relevant legislation are met.
Educated to degree standard or equivalent in a related discipline, you will be able to demonstrate significant experience of working in a relevant field e.g. Countryside Management, Environment, Ecology and have experience of managing staff. An effective communicator, you will have a firm understanding of the benefits of collaborative working to achieve common goals and be able to establish positive working relationships with many different partners/stakeholders/contractors. You will also be required to prepare regular reports and therefore it is essential that you have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages and applications.
Naturally, you will possess good problem solving and analytical skills, be able to work independently, manage your workload effectively and undertake training where necessary. Previous experience of developing multi-agency initiatives, strategies and policies, together with experience of budget monitoring and working with external funders would also be advantageous.
Some working outside normal working hours including weekends, evenings and public holidays may be required from time to time.
You will require to become a Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme member prior to commencing in this role.
A driver’s licence and the ability to travel throughout the Lanarkshire area are required for this post.
This is a temporary appointment for a period of 23 months to cover the post holder’s absence.
Work pattern:
Monday - Thursday: 8:45am - 16:45pm (including a 55 minute unpaid break)
Friday: 8:45am - 16:15pm (including a 50 minute unpaid break)
This is a temporary position until 31/05/.
