SF6 Field Service Engineer (Electrical / Mechanical / Switchgear / HV) Power Engineering Services (PES) is expanding its SF6 division and is seeking a hands-on Field Service Engineer to join the team. UK-wide travel | Workshop base: Wortley, Leeds Circa £20 per hour (DOE), equivalent to approx. £41,600 per annum (40-hour week) overtime progression Monday-Thursday: 7:00am-4:00pm | Friday: 7:00am-1:00pm Lots of overtime available and travel-based work provide strong earning potential above base earnings. About the Role A varied, site-focused role working across the UK on high and medium voltage (HV/MV) electrical equipment, primarily gas-insulated switchgear. You will be responsible for SF6 gas handling during maintenance, repairs, and breakdowns. As the division grows, your time will be split between UK site work and workshop duties at our Leeds facility. Key Responsibilities On Site (Primary Focus): SF6 gas degassing, recovery, evacuation, and controlled re-gassing System evacuation to remove moisture and air Gas analysis (moisture, purity, decomposition testing) Leak detection and pressure verification Support maintenance and repair activities on client sites Complete all documentation, gas records, and compliance paperwork Ensure adherence to F-Gas and environmental regulations Workshop (Wortley, Leeds): Service and maintain SF6 gas handling equipment Strip down, inspect, and replace OEM components Reassemble and fully test (leak, vacuum, pressure, safety systems) Prepare equipment for hire (tested, certified, ready for use) What Were Looking For Electrical or mechanical background (essential) Experience in industrial or site-based environments HV/MV or switchgear experience (desirable) SF6 experience (advantageous but not essential) Practical, hands-on problem solver Full UK driving licence Willingness to travel and stay away when required Training & Development Full training provided for the right candidate Company-funded F-Gas certification (if not already held) Manufacturer training on specialist SF6 equipment Clear career progression as the division expands PES holds an exclusive UK service agreement with a leading European manufacturer of SF6 gas handling equipment, offering specialist training and a highly sought-after skillset within the power industry.
