The salary attached to this permanent, three day per week (0.6 FTE) position is Teachers' Pay Range (fringe) between £46,039 - £52,490 per annum, pro-rata, plus an SEN Allowance of £2,787 - £5,497 pro-rata, dependent on whether the successful applicant holds the Post Graduate Diploma in Deaf Education (a mandatory qualification for teachers of deaf children and young people).

We in Physical and Sensory Support (PSS) are excited to be recruiting an Advisory Teacher of the Deaf to join our fantastic team. We are a county-wide team sitting within Children, Families and Lifelong Learning, and currently under Education and Lifelong Learning.

About The Role

Physical and Sensory Support is a team which includes Teachers and Specialist Teaching Assistants who work in home and school settings. As an Advisory Teacher of the Deaf (ATOD), you will be working with deaf children and young people across the range of ability, between the ages of 0-19 (as well their families, teachers and other involved professionals).

As an ATOD, and being a qualified Teacher, you will bring your current or recent teaching experience and extensive knowledge of special needs and disability to the role, delivering a statutory service to vulnerable children and young people.

If you do not hold the Post Graduate Diploma in Deaf Education, you will be enrolled for a funded two-year, part-time university course commencing September 2026.

Your Application

In order to be considered for shortlisting, your application will clearly evidence the following skills and align with :

5. A teaching qualification showing QTS (Qualified Teacher Status)
6. A commitment to, and knowledge and current/recent experience of, working with deaf children and young people and/or children and young people with additional needs and disability
7. Experience of working within a team and the positive contribution you have made
8. A willingness to undertake a funded, 2-year post-graduate course in deaf education
