We are seeking to appoint skilled and motivated neonatal nurses to join the Winnicott Baby Unit at St Mary’s Hospital. Applicants should demonstrate enthusiasm for neonatal nursing and a commitment to promoting Family Integrated Care.
Previous leadership experience is desirable but not essential. Full support, training, and development opportunities will be provided, including for senior Band 5 nurses wishing to develop their leadership skills.

Together, we care for nearly 1,000 babies each year, providing life-saving care to some of the most vulnerable newborns. At QCCH, we care for extremely preterm babies born at less than 27 weeks’ gestation, while SMH provides care for babies born from 27 weeks’ gestation onwards. We also provide specialist care for babies with complex medical needs, including hypoxic ischaemic encephalopathy and retinopathy of prematurity.
Main duties of the job
1. To deliver safe, efficient, compassionate and excellent individualised nursing care for babies and their family.
2. To promote Integrated family delivered care within Neonatal services
3. To reduce risk and maintain patient and staff safety; take lead in investigating clinical incidents and identify ways to improve practice
4. To effectively communicate with family/carers, the multidisciplinary team and agencies outside the organisation.
5. To supervise, support and assess learning/development of junior staff, pre-registration nursing and midwifery students, nursing associates and nursery nurses.
6. To participate in research on the clinical floor.

Education / Qualifications
Essential criteria
8. RN/ RSCN/ RN Child / RM
9. Neonatal Qualification in Speciality or Equivalent (eg ENB 405)
10. NMC Standards of Student Supervision and Assessment (SSSA) Qualification
11. Neonatal Life Support (NLS)
Desirable criteria
12. Advanced Resuscitation of the Newborn Infant (ARNI)
13. Nursing Degree
Experience
Essential criteria
14. Recent experience of caring for sick neonates in ITU/HDU/SCBU
15. Leading a small team
16. Supporting students and junior members of staff
Skills/knowledge/ abilities
Essential criteria
17. Demonstrates an understanding of managing resources and clinical risk
18. Adaptable and responsive to changing needs
19. Computer skills to enable data collection and use of emails
