Job Title: Senior Accessibility Consultant
Job Description
We are looking for an experienced Senior Accessibility Consultant who can provide strong technical expertise and thought leadership in accessibility. The role involves driving accessibility strategies forward, synthesising information, and owning accessibility workstreams to relieve the team of overwhelming workloads.
Responsibilities
1. Conduct comprehensive accessibility audits across mobile apps and web platforms.
2. Test on physical devices and provide clear, prioritised, actionable recommendations.
3. Proactively present findings to Senior stakeholders, synthesising complex issues into strategic summaries.
4. Own the accessibility workstream, reducing the burden on the team.
5. Review and analyse internal and external accessibility reports, highlighting gaps, risks, and opportunities.
6. Produce high-quality reporting regularly and without prompting.
7. Contribute to governance, risk controls, and cross-platform accessibility standards.
8. Provide expert recommendations on accessibility tooling and maintain documentation on standards and best practices.
9. Support the development of the accessibility roadmap.
10. Mentor and coach colleagues on accessibility processes and deliver training sessions to uplift the capability of designers, developers, and testers.
11. Act as a thought leader in accessibility within the Digital organisation.
Essential Skills
12. Minimum of 5 years in digital accessibility consulting roles.
13. Strong experience in conducting detailed audits for mobile and web.
14. Deep understanding of WCAG AA.
15. Technical proficiency in ARIA, semantic HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
16. Hands-on experience with assistive technologies such as NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver, TalkBack, and ZoomText.
17. Proficiency with accessibility testing tools like Axe, CCA, and Accessibility Insights.
18. Ability to explain failures and provide clear remediation guidance.
19. Skill in simplifying complex findings and presenting structured insights.
20. Proven ability to work autonomously and take ownership of deliverables.
21. Strong communication skills, with the ability to alleviate team workload.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
22. experience in PDF accessibility beyond automated checks.
23. Broader consultancy experience, such as service design, content design, UX, or product governance.
24. Understanding the business and sustainability impact of accessibility decisions.
Work Environment
The role operates on a hybrid working model, requiring a minimum of 50% on-site presence in either Manchester.
