The Role

Hiscox UK is looking for a self-starter Propositions Manager who will design and deliver new products, propositions and sector opportunities for SMEs. This role will understand the market in great depth, to take an ‘outside in’ approach to set the agenda to develop new propositions that will drive material growth. They will challenge the status quo to think of ideas that have not previously been considered, and to drive real innovation in category.

As a niche insurer we are selective about the businesses and customers that we insure, taking care to select the right risks for customers so that we can serve our customers to the highest standard. This role is pivotal in taking a customer focussed, ‘outside in’ approach to lead on targeted sector, proposition and product expansion.

Hiscox has deep specialist underwriting expertise, and historically we have used this underwriting expertise to find and assess proposition growth opportunities. The time is right, to bring in a newly formed Propositions team to develop innovative propositions, to drive growth, to bring a stronger customer lens, and ‘outside in’ approach to our sector, proposition and product development.

This person will be excited to get stuck in and deliver. They will be as comfortable with inspirational blue sky thinking as they are with data and market analysis. They will be an independent thinker who doesn’t need to wait to be told what to do – they will see an opportunity and work cross functionally to make it happen. They will build very strong ties across the business particularly with their Underwriting counterparts to harness their specialist knowledge, whilst also bringing a fresh, ‘outside in’, customer perspective to give Hiscox a point of difference in the market. They will have both an inherent curiosity and innovative approach to bring in fresh angles and create innovative propositions, whilst also taking a highly commercial, data-led approach to ensure we achieve profitable growth in the right sectors.

What you’ll be doing

1. Analyse the market to inform an ‘outside in’ approach, capitalising on future industry, lifestyle or professional trends to spot new opportunities.

2. Working closely with the underwriting team to assess ‘inside out’ opportunities, bringing in a strong customer lens to optimise existing propositions and products

3. Robustly assess market share within the current sectors that we operate to spot existing opportunities for growth, both designing a quantitative market sizing approach as well as assimilating existing insight that might exist either within Hiscox already or with our broker partners

4. Lead a data-led approach to size sector opportunities, where we might look to expand to with new or adjacent products to new sectors

5. Inform ‘innovation’ pipeline beyond the policy document to design value add propositions that set Hiscox apart from its competitors to win in the market.

6. Work closely with Customer Insight team to use customer insight in both an expansive and reductive fashion to generate market leading new propositions

7. Deliver new products and propositions on time and on budget

Candidate Profile

8. Experience in a similar role; working with consumer insight, NPD, and proposition development, either within or outside of the insurance sector

9. A consumer obsessed proposition manager able to demonstrate having made a really positive difference for other brands through impactful and effective proposition development

10. Curiosity and hunger for customer, sector, lifestyle trends to innovate in ways not done before

11. Relentless customer focus, who can be the voice of the customer in all innovation efforts

12. Data-driven approach who can rigorously assess the sector, market and product opportunity with a rigorous commercial approach

13. Comfortable with grappling with a complex sector and products who can leverage internal underwriting expertise to bring new opportunities to market

14. Excellent stakeholder relationships who will work well to across a matrixed organisation to deliver brilliantly

15. Creatively commercial and commercially creative

16. Focus on delivery – working cross functionally to deliver new products and propositions to market
