Rate of Pay: £369.40- £499.00 per day
Summary:
The Interim Transport Lead is a senior leadership role within Slough Borough Council's Regeneration, Housing and Environment Directorate. The post holder will provide strategic and operational leadership for the Council's transport functions, ensuring the effective delivery of transport initiatives that support economic growth, environmental sustainability, and improved connectivity across the borough. The role is responsible for leading the development and implementation of transport strategies, delivering major and minor infrastructure projects, managing public transport partnerships, maintaining highway assets, and promoting safer and more sustainable travel choices. Working closely with elected members, government agencies, transport operators, neighbouring authorities, and local communities, the Interim Transport Lead will ensure transport services are customer-focused, financially sustainable, and aligned with the Council's strategic priorities.
Responsibilities:
* Provide leadership and expert operational input into the development, implementation, and review of Slough's Local Transport Plan.
* Ensure services remain responsive to emerging transport needs, legislative changes, and national policy developments.
* Oversee engineering design and feasibility development of transport schemes.
* Ensure the effective maintenance of highway structures, including road bridges, footbridges, and associated assets.
* Lead the development and delivery of road safety programmes and schemes aimed at reducing collisions and improving community safety.
* Ensure appropriate use of assets and resources to maximise service outcomes.
Qualifications:
* Degree-level qualification in Transport Planning, Civil Engineering, Highway Engineering, Transportation, Infrastructure Management, or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant professional experience.
Essentials:
* Significant experience leading transport, highways, or infrastructure services within a local authority or comparable environment.
* Proven experience managing major transport infrastructure programmes and capital projects
* Experience procuring and managing contracts and consultants.
* Experience developing and implementing transport policies and strategies
