Scarborough Hospital’s Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) is seeking a caring and committed Neonatal Support Worker to join our dedicated team. Main duties of the job

To provide high-quality, family-centred care to babies and their families within the Special Care Baby Unit. The postholder will support registered neonatal nurses and the wider multidisciplinary team in delivering safe, compassionate, and effective care, while promoting infant development and parent involvement.

5. Assist with the day-to-day care of babies, including feeding, comforting, and supporting their basic needs
6. Provide reassurance and guidance to parents, helping them feel confident and involved in their baby’s care
7. Maintain a safe, clean, and nurturing environment within the unit
8. Work closely as part of a skilled, multidisciplinary team

Education, Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria

16. Basic literacy/ numeracy skills preferably gained through secondary school education
17. Willingness to undertake training

Desirable criteria

18. NVQ/ QCF Level 2 in a health-related subject

Experience & Knowledge Required

Essential criteria

19. Detailed understanding of the role of a HCSW
20. Awareness of what is important to a patient

Desirable criteria

21. Experience in a care setting

22. Good command of written and verbal English
23. Able to communicate well with patients and other members of staff (face to face or over the phone)
24. Basic IT skills
25. Understanding of how to work as part of a team
