Buyer What’s the job & who would it suit? An opportunity has arisen to work as a Buyer within SSC. The main role purpose is to support the Purchasing Manager in the cost-effective procurement and delivery of quality goods and services to meet operational needs. The role would suit someone with previous experience of working in a purchasing environment. We take responsibility for what we do The team you’ll be working in Working within the purchasing team, you will be an integral part of delivering a great service to internal colleagues and our customers. Besides, your immediate peers, you will also work with our sales and production teams to ensure that we deliver a great result for both the customer and our business. What you’ll be doing So that you can get a feel for the job, here is what your key responsibilities will be: Take responsibility for the end-to-end process of purchasing goods and services, from initial enquiry / quotation through to final delivery. Negotiate directly with suppliers by phone, email and in person to source the best quality goods and services at the lowest possible prices whilst achieving optimal levels of service. Work closely with other departments to ensure products are quoted, ordered and delivered on a timely basis to help us fulfil our commitments to customers. Build long-term relationships with suppliers that enable us to maintain our ISO 9001 accreditation, particularly ensuring that Test Certificates provided for materials purchased are accurate and complete and provided on a timely basis. Organise and schedule material purchases to provide a steady flow of material for the shop floor. Expedite material and sub-contract orders where required, providing an update to the business each morning on deliveries expected for that day. Help identify under-performing suppliers and source new, high-quality suppliers to enhance our offering and provide alternative sourcing options. Assist in the management of our on-site stocks of standard raw materials. Carry out any other reasonable duties within your skills and experience. What you’ll need to succeed Need to know A knowledge of metals and metal suppliers would be advantageous How to use a computerised MRP system How to work in accordance with quality standards such as ISO 9001 How to use all core Microsoft Office software Need to have Previous experience of working in a purchasing environment Able to manage and negotiate with suppliers Able to build and maintain strong working relationships Good mathematical and IT skills Strong analytical skills and experience of working with data Need to demonstrate We have a number of core competencies that we believe are fundamental to both individual and business success.
