Assistant Accountant
Rate: £230 per day
Contract: Initial 12-month contract
Location: Crawley
The Role
Our client is seeking an Assistant Accountant to join their Business Partnering Finance team, this is a key role supporting the delivery of major construction outputs, ensuring financial performance is managed efficiently.
Working closely with the Finance Lead, Management Accountant and wider operational teams, you will support month-end processes, deliver timely and accurate management reporting, and develop a strong understanding of how costs and volumes flow through multiple systems. You will also support regulatory reporting and provide accurate unit cost data to the business.
Key Responsibilities
Support the accurate and timely production of monthly management accounts
Prepare and post journals including accruals, prepayments and transfers
Contribute to and interpret Power BI Performance Packs, using key metrics to support performance improvement
Analyse large datasets to identify trends, variances and opportunities
Support the Capital Programme & Procurement Management Accounts pack and Operational Performance Reporting
Participate in cross-business cost reviews to understand drivers of variance
Document and improve financial processes, controls and efficiencies
Deliver ad-hoc analysis and support finance projects as needed
About You
Part-qualified Accountant or someone looking to build a career in finance
Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate complex data into clear insights
Confident communicator, able to partner with stakeholders across the business
High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
Able to work autonomously while collaborating effectively within a team
Flexible approach to workload and priorities
Skills & Experience
Sound accounting knowledge, including accruals and prepayments
Strong Excel skills (PivotTables, SUMIFs, XLOOKUPs)
Understanding of accounting regulations, particularly within Capex environments
Commercial mindset with a focus on continuous improvement
Experience with Power BI, SQL, Power Query or AI tools is desirable
Experience within a regulated or project delivery environment is beneficial but not essential
Studying or aspiring to study CIMA, ACCA or ACA
