Welcome to Devon Partnership Trust! We are delighted to invite you to apply for the Consultant Psychiatrist post located on The Cedars, Wonford House, Exeter. The Cedars comprises two acute inpatient wards which cares for adults of working age. The combined bed base of The Cedars is 32 beds, mixed gender unit. There is a possibility for a hybrid remote working pattern dependant on the post. Extra Programmed Activities are available and negotiable for clinical, research, innovation, teaching, medical management and other special interests. For more geographically remote posts, the Trust would be happy to negotiate additional bespoke arrangements for suitable candidates. The post holder will be based on one of the wards at The Cedars in Exeter, and be responsible for a maximum of 16 patients. There will be a dedicated private office with PC/laptop accessibility. A medical secretary will be provided and you will be well supported by a dedicated full-time medical staffing department. There are resident doctor and MPAC provisions on the ward. This post is suitable as a first time NHS consultant, or an existing or post-retirement consultant with a broad level of general adult psychiatric expertise. International candidates are welcome to apply. Experience of working in adult acute inpatient mental health services is preferable but support will be given to doctors wishing to move from other psychiatric specialties or roles. Main duties of the job The successful applicant will offer assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients being managed informally and those detained under the Mental Health Act in the capacity of Responsible Clinician. They will also provide leadership to the wider urgent and inpatient care pathway and participate in ensuring the care flow of patients through the Trust is efficient and patient centred. You will take part in the on-call rota and other consultants from the area will be expected to provide cross-cover for leave. Approved Clinician status at appointment is preferable but those who would be eligible eg doctors applying from abroad, will be supported to obtain this authority. We have excellent IT and full electronic record across our services and are in the process of a clinician-led design of our own clinical record system. A mentor and peer group will be provided. You will have 2.5 Supporting Programmed Activities (10 hours a week) to support your professional development, attend your monthly peer group, quarterly medical advisory committee and local post-graduate meetings.
