Head of Finance
Location: Middlesbrough
Salary: Circa £60,000 per annum plus 6% employer pension contribution
Contract: Permanent, full-time (35 hours per week)
Holidays: 20 days annual leave plus bank holidays and additional discretionary days at Easter and Christmas
Are you an experienced finance leader looking for a strategic role within a values-led organisation?
We are seeking a Head of Finance to join our senior leadership team. This position will be instrumental in ensuring financial sustainability, overseeing investment and risk management, and leading a professional finance team. The role also includes providing financial guidance to senior stakeholders and supporting day-to-day financial operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and implement financial strategies aligned with the organisation's mission and long-term objectives
Lead day-to-day financial operations, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting
Oversee treasury and investment activities, including working with external advisors to maximise ethical and responsible investment returns
Provide financial analysis and advice to senior leaders and trustee boards
Manage and mentor the finance team, promoting a culture of excellence and accountability
Ensure compliance with all relevant financial regulations and internal policies
Oversee risk management, including maintaining a financial risk register and supporting audit processes
Provide guidance and training to operational teams to strengthen financial awareness and compliance
Collaborate with IT providers to support the finance function's systems and cybersecurity
Oversee payroll and pension arrangements in partnership with HR
Manage organisational insurance needs and relationships with insurance providers
Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including auditors, lawyers, bankers, and investment managers
About You:
Significant experience in senior-level financial, asset and resource management in a comparable setting
Experience managing investment and property portfolios
Strong working knowledge of financial systems and software (e.g., accounting applications, MS Office)
Proven track record of reporting at board level and advising senior stakeholders
Degree-level education or equivalent professional qualification/experience
Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) is desirable; if not qualified, extensive financial leadership experience (QBE) is essential
Evidence of continued professional development
Excellent strategic thinking, planning and organisational skills
Strong leadership and people management skills, with the ability to inspire and develop teams
Confident communicator, able to present complex financial information clearly to diverse audiences
Collaborative approach with the ability to work independently and manage a varied workload
Additional Information:
Some travel within the UK may be required
Occasional work outside normal office hours may be necessary
