We are looking for an individual to fill a new post within the Allergy & Immunology department at St James's University Hospital. The appointee will become a key member of a multidisciplinary team that provides a specialised service to hospitals and GPs for the diagnosis & management of a range of rare primary immuno‑deficiencies, systemic autoinflammatory disorders and a large number of allergic diseases.
Main duties
The successful consultant immunologist will support the immunology laboratory, lead outpatient and day‑case services, and supervise resident and specialist doctors, nurses, pharmacists and physician associates. Call duties will be on a 1:4 rota.
Job responsibilities
* Sustain the current capacity of the service for clinical allergy and immunology work, with a view to expansion following further development of nursing clinics and review of patient throughput.
* Ensure the smooth flow from diagnosis to treatment & follow‑up.
* Support development of the Allergy & Immunology Service.
* Work closely with the multidisciplinary team and develop innovative ways of working to sustain increasing patient load.
* Contribute to the Allergy & Immunology on‑call rota (Category B).
* Allow the continuing development of subspecialty interests within the Leeds immunology & allergy service.
Qualifications
* Membership of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the United Kingdom (or equivalent).
* Completion of a recognised training programme in clinical and laboratory immunology as outlined by the JRCPTB or equivalent body.
* Admittance to the Specialist Register, or within six months of admission for trainees in the UK.
* Strong commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching; a research interest is desirable.
Additional information
This full‑time (10PA) post is located at St James's University Teaching Hospital. The consultant will work with Prof Sinisa Savic, Dr Anoop Mistry and Dr Claire Stockdale to deliver specialist services across West, North and large parts of East Yorkshire, serving a population of just over 3 million.
