Overview
You have been identified for the role of part‑time Diabetes Specialist Podiatrist to cover maternity leave for 12 months at Addenbrooke’s Hospital.
Band 6 podiatrists, secondment opportunities or bank positions will also be considered.
Responsibilities
* Provide independent assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation of podiatric care for patients with diabetes and related complications.
* Deliver care in outpatient clinics, medical and surgical inpatient wards, and the Emergency Department.
* Assess and treat acute foot problems in the emergency department and same‑day emergency clinic (SDEC).
* Develop and deliver individual specialised care packages and provide appropriate foot‑care education to patients.
* Work in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams including diabetes consultants, podiatrists, podiatry assistants, vascular and orthopaedic surgeons, orthotists, dieticians, and diabetes specialist nurses.
* Assist in post‑operative orthopaedic care and treatment in partnership with a highly experienced foot and ankle orthopaedic surgeon.
* Maintain liaison with primary and secondary care professionals to meet service demand.
Qualifications & Experience
* Registered with the HCPC.
* Excellent knowledge and understanding in the assessment, diagnosis and management of diabetic foot disease, with strong clinical skills.
* Experience working with complex diabetic foot disease preferred, but applicants with less experience are welcome if willing to learn and develop.
* Ability to treat a range of co‑existing complications and morbidities: neuropathy, vascular disease, cardiac and renal failure, dementia, acute and chronic infection.
* Knowledge of same‑day emergency clinic processes is an advantage.
Working Pattern
The role requires coverage on Monday, Tuesday and Friday, with the possibility of an alternative pattern where suitable.
