An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Stoma Clinical Nurse Specialist to join our Stoma Team at the Royal Gwent Hospital.

The post holder must be a Registered Nurse and is therefore bound by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Code of Professional Conduct for Nurses, Midwives and Health Visitors.

The post holder is a clinical expert and is guided by general health, organisation and occupational policies.

You will assess, develop and implement a specialist nursing care programme for Stoma patients.


Main duties of the job

Provide specialist nursing service using his/ her knowledge to facilitate high quality specialist care to Stoma patients.

Work as an autonomous practitioner to interpret, communicate and act on findings, referring patients for furtherinvestigation and, or treatment where appropriate.

Works as a member of the multidisciplinary team providing supervision and leadership contributing to the delivery of a specialist service working alongside and supporting the Consultants

Use complex reasoning, critical thinking, reflection, and analysis on healthcare issues to aid assessment, clinical judgements, diagnostics (currently under guidance), and treatment decisions.

Provide evidence of practice and innovative service development, including taking a lead in the development andimplementation of policy, national frameworks, and quality improvement.

Engage in flexible, cross-boundary partnership working, facilitating communication, and understanding betweenindividuals, groups, professions, and managers.

Identify own and others personal development needs and take effective action to address them.

Independently break bad news / give feedback of results to the patient while supporting them and their family / carers and offer counselling when explaining diagnoses.

The CNS will contribute to the operational and strategic development of the service and will be responsible in ensuring that the professional standards are maintained.

Person Specification


Qualifications & Knowledge

* Registered 1st Level Nurse on the practising register
* 1st Degree relevant to Nursing
* Masters degree of equivalent demonstrable level of knowledge and experience
* Teaching qualification
* Management course
* Counselling course (Certificate/Advanced or enhanced communication training


Experience

* Nursing experience in a Registered Nurse role
* Extensive previous experience of working within a Colorectal/Stoma care environment
* Excellent clinical communication skills
* Experience of complex decision making
* Experience of autonomous working
* Experience of multi professional working
* Experience of leadership and management
* Evaluation and audit experience
* Research course and experience
* Counselling experience


Skills and Attributes

* Highly effective specialist clinical skills
* Ability to delegate and prioritise work.
* Effective communicator with patients, relatives and all members of the multi-disciplinary healthcare team involved in secondary and primary care.
* Ability to represent Aneurin Bevan University Health Board on Stoma care nursing related issues.
* Leadership and management skills including judgement and decision making.
* Demonstrate the ability to share ideas, information, and feedback in order to empower all levels of staff.
* Presentation and teaching skills.
* Computer literate, able to use databases and other relevant programmes.
* Ability to interpret and utilise information effectively including numerical and financial information.
* Ability to perform supervision/mentorship to others.
* Ability to speak Welsh. Welsh Language Skills are desirable
