 
        
        Are you passionate about positively influencing the environmental performance of marine development projects? Join our team as a Principal Marine Consultant and you will have the opportunity to work on our range of marine projects in sectors such as offshore wind, interconnectors, subsea cables, ports and harbours, and coastal developments. You will collaborate daily with technical experts, including our in‑house marine ecology team, within our established Environmental Impact (EIA) team that comprises over 165 staff across the UK and Ireland.
As we are a national team we are flexible in terms of office location. Ideally you would be based in one of our offices across the UK, including Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, London Aldgate, Manchester, Newcastle, and Plymouth, or take advantage of our flexible hybrid working model.
Responsibilities
 * Provide Expertise: Manage environmental inputs across a diverse range of marine projects, preparing EIA screening, scoping reports, environmental statements, and supporting assessments. Provide technical review of specialist chapters and be involved from early strategy development through design, construction, and operation.
 * Ensure Quality: Deliver high‑quality deliverables that meet rigorous quality management procedures and comply with EIA quality standards.
 * Project Management: Effectively manage resources and budgets, making use of project management skills to support project life‑cycle stages.
 * Collaborate: Work as part of an integrated team to improve environmental outcomes—identify constraints, propose avoidance and mitigation solutions, and uncover opportunities for benefits.
 * Client Contact: Manage client relationships, internal teams, and subcontractors.
 * Growth: Promote AECOM’s environmental services internally and externally, and identify and lead business development opportunities and associated fee and technical proposal development.
Qualifications
 * A degree in a relevant environmental discipline (preferably a master’s degree) and ideally a professional membership (e.g., Chartered Environmentalist).
 * Comprehensive EIA consultancy experience, with proven skills in preparing environmental reports and conducting technical reviews of specialist chapters.
 * Detailed understanding of marine consenting and licensing regimes around the UK and ideally Ireland.
 * Ability to coordinate inputs from technical specialists and provide bespoke advice to clients.
 * Project management skills, including programming, staff resource and budget management.
 * Commitment to innovation and continuing professional development.
 * Interest in line management duties and staff mentoring.
 * Strong verbal and report writing skills, confidence engaging with a wide variety of stakeholder groups.
