Job Summary

We are looking to add an experience Geotechnical and Aggregate Materials Engineer to our Civil Engineering team, in a flexible role, which offers both project‑based and office‑based working, depending on business needs and workload demands.

As a key member of the team, you will take responsibility for ensuring all essential site testing and documentation are accurately maintained across Earthworks, Piling, Rigid Inclusions, and Site Aggregate Provision.

You will also have the opportunity to travel nationally, visiting quarries and aggregate suppliers to gather and validate quality records for standard aggregates, including Type 1 materials.

Collaboration is central to this role. You will work closely with the Temporary Works Department, providing vital geotechnical parameters to support the development of temporary works designs.

In addition, you will play an important part in developing our people by assisting with Earthworks and Aggregate Materials training for Graduates and Site Engineers involved in Earthworks or Aggregate placement.

Job Description

The Geotechnical and Aggregate Materials Engineer shall:

* Support the Head Geotechnical Engineer to ensure the processes needed for the Material management system are properly established, implemented and maintained.
* Participate in continuous improvement activities to enhance the materials management process and associated workflows.
* Support the establishment of the site-specific Earthworks and Specialist Geotechnical Works ITPs and Method Statements.
* Liaise with design teams, temporary works engineers, and project managers to ensure clarity and accuracy of technical requirements.
* Support the delivery of Earthworks training for site staff, including Graduates and Site Engineers.
* Where projects dictate, assist with on-site Earthworks supervision.
* Promote the various management policies, Earthwork and Specialist Geotechnical Works objectives and key performance indicators (KPIs).
* Monitor earthworks progress, material suitability, compaction results, and geotechnical testing outcomes.
* Maintain accurate site records to support project reporting and certification.
* Support the review and approval of aggregate suppliers, including site visits to quarries and material production facilities as required
* Verify that subcontractor teams understand and adhere to their Method Statements, ITPs, and responsibilities including related objectives and KPI's
* Ensure all Specialist Geotechnical Works and Earthworks sub‑contractors are competent, suitably qualified, and fully briefed on project requirements.

It does not attempt to detail every activity. Specific tasks and objectives will be agreed with the post holder at regular intervals.

Personal Specification

Essential

* Demonstrate a sound knowledge of the Earthworks and Aggregates Industry with proven experience in Geotechnical Engineering.
* Educated to degree level or an equivalent level of experience
* Possess strong communication and organisational skills
* Have the ability to work to strict deadlines, prioritising and planning workload
* Have good attention to detail
* Possess good IT skills with proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook
* Work effectively in a team
* Hold a full and clean UK driving license
* Be willing to travel, nationwide

Desirable

* Experience on Earthworks projects.
* Some knowledge of the Quarrying/ Aggregates Industry
