This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated medical physicist to lead on the development of this service with opportunities for research and development. Candidates should have sufficient experience to act as the lead Medical Physics Expert for diagnostic and for non-oncological therapeutic nuclear medicine, and will also work closely with other staff in the delivery of oncological radioisotope therapies. Candidates should have both an RWA certificate and an RPA certificate relevant to Nuclear Medicine.
Main duties of the job
The Nuclear Medicine imaging service for UHNM has three gamma cameras together with an adjacent radiopharmacy in a modern PFI hospital build; and a PET CT scanner purchased in collaboration with Keele University. Nuclear Medicine Physics is part of the Radiology Physics section of Medical Physics which provides wide-ranging scientific and technical support at this Trust and at neighbouring hospitals.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
To manage and lead all aspects of the diagnostic and therapeutic (non-oncological outpatients) Nuclear Medicine Physics service at the University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust and to ensure compliance with statutory requirements. To take primary responsibility for all scientific aspects of the Nuclear Medicine Physics and Radionuclide Protection Service provided to the other hospitals listed above.To act as the lead Medical Physics Expert (as defined under the Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations 2017), and Radiation Protection Advisor (as defined in the Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017) for nuclear medicine at the University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust, and for nuclear medicine at any other hospitals to whom the Trust provides nuclear medicine physics services. To work closely with other staff in the delivery of oncological radionuclide therapies. To act as a Radioactive Waste Advisor to all the Trusts mentioned above. To implement and sustain any strategic change or improvement in the delivery of the service as agreed with the Head of Radiology Physics, Lead Nuclear Medicine Technologist and the Directorate Managers in the Imaging and Oncology, Haematology and Medical Physics Directorates.

* Honours degree 1st or 2nd class in physics or closely related science
* Postgraduate MSc degree in medical physics
* UK State Registered Clinical Scientist in Nuclear Medicine Physics
* UK Certificated Medical Physics Expert in Nuclear Medicine
* RWA Certificate
* RPA certificate
Experience
* Minimum of 10 years full time equivalent post registration in Nuclear Medicine Physics in a hospital environment
* Several years experience as an appointed MPE in Nuclear Medicine Physics
