Systems Engineer – Requirements (Directed Energy Systems)
Location: Bristol
Salary: Up to £55,000 (depending on experience)
Working model: Hybrid – typically 2–4 days per week on-site
An opportunity has arisen to join a leading defence technology organisation at the forefront of innovation in Directed Energy Weapon Systems. You’ll be part of the highly publicised DragonFire programme – the UK’s first Laser Directed Energy Weapon (LDEW) demonstrator, which has achieved remarkable success in recent trials and continues to evolve into a deployable, world-class air defence system.
As a Systems Engineer within the Requirements & Certification domain, you will ensure that this next-generation technology meets the highest standards of performance, safety, and compliance. You’ll play a critical role in shaping the system’s specification, proving, and assurance activities across its lifecycle.
What you’ll be doing:
• Leading requirements analysis, specification, and justification for complex system designs.
• Supporting system proving, verification, and certification to ensure compliance with engineering and safety standards.
• Managing requirement flow-down through the system, sub-system, and equipment levels.
• Working closely with design authorities, customers, and multidisciplinary teams to balance capability needs with design constraints.
• Communicating technical issues and design rationale clearly to internal and external stakeholders.
• Supporting technical mediation and problem-solving throughout the system lifecycle.
What we’re looking for:
• Background in systems engineering with experience in requirements management, design assurance, or certification.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to technical detail and traceability.
• Ability to collaborate across disciplines and communicate effectively at all levels.
• Familiarity with tools such as DOORS, DOORS NG, or Rhapsody is desirable.
• Experience in the defence or other highly regulated engineering environments is advantageous.
• A delivery-focused, proactive mindset with a passion for working on cutting-edge technology.
