Job Description
The Environment Agency is modernising its systems and IT infrastructure, moving towards Microsoft Azure cloud computing and analytics tools such as Synapse Analytics, Fabric and PowerBI. This role offers an exciting opportunity to join the Water Quality Digital Services team as a Junior Analytics Engineer, supporting the development and deployment of data products and analytics tools for the Water Quality user community.
Team
The Digital Services team within National Evidence and Business (E&B) focuses on building innovative products that improve origination efficiency and transform data into meaningful insights for effective decision‑making. The team is dispersed, working with partners across the country in a positive and inclusive culture.
Responsibilities
As a Junior Analytics Engineer you will:
* Develop and maintain reliable ETL pipelines to integrate data from diverse sources.
* Build and support analytical products using Python and SQL to provide clean, reusable solutions.
* Organise data into STAR schema data models for efficient querying and analysis in relational data warehouses.
* Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to create reporting and analytics tools that enable the Water Quality user community to leverage data and drive policy changes.
Experience / Skills Required
* Extensive experience managing and analysing large datasets from multiple sources to support varied reporting and analytics needs.
* Experience building and maintaining reliable ETL pipelines and working with SQL Server, database management and data warehousing best practices.
* Strong Python expertise, including development of clean, reusable functions and object‑oriented code for production‑quality solutions.
* Solid knowledge of SQL Server, database management, and data warehousing best practices.
* Proficiency with analytical tools and programming languages to transform raw data into actionable insights.
* Problem‑solving skills and ability to formulate efficient and innovative solutions using sound data management and data analysis practices.
* Ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds while promoting inclusion and collaboration.

Additional Information
• This is a national role – the working location is flexible/hybrid with some travel or overnight stays possible.
• Appropriate training will be provided and EA Office base location.
• Candidates may opt to be on a reserve list for up to 6 months.
