Health and Safety Assistant
This is an opportunity to join one of the UK's leading civil engineering contractors with long term HM Govt Frameworks across the South West. The purpose of this job is to provide guidance, support, and assurance to ensure full compliance with all Quality, Health, Safety, and Environmental (QHSE) requirements. The role supports the effective implementation of management systems, promotes continual improvement, and drives safe and sustainable behaviours throughout the network.
DBS will be conducted as part of this role along with routine drugs and alcohol testing.
Responsibilities
* Leading by example on site and remain professional at all times.
* Visiting sites and engaging with teams and managers, ensuring responsibilities are clear and providing any technical support.
* Conducting site inspections, and reporting findings.
* Provide coaching, advice and support.
* Promote safe behaviours and challenge unsafe behaviours/conditions (Challenging Beliefs, Affecting Behaviour).
* Support the contract in the assessment of risk and measuring & monitoring performance.
* Proactively drive and promote the contract and company strategies.
* To promote innovation and continuous improvement.
* Assist in communicating information across the contract.
* Ensure the management systems "The Way We Work" are understood and used effectively at project level.
* Proactively review performance to identify areas for improvement and ensure that robust actions are put in place, including identifying root causes and monitored to assess outcomes.
* Engaging with the client and other external stakeholders (i.e. ISO certification body).
* Assist in incident investigation and ensure lessons learnt are applied.
* To provide training/awareness as necessary.
* Review and allocate actions for near miss/observation reporting via E-Care.
* Review and allocate actions relating to audit findings.
* Prepare various reports including monthly audit/near miss findings.
* Attend and contribute to a variety of meetings dictated by Business Unit Manager/HSE Advisor.
* Complete monthly report as required by Head of HSE.
* Deliver and maintain agreed key performance indicators.
* Provide support and assistance for all members of the HSE team and beyond.
* Travel to depots and sites across the Southwest; vehicle or mileage allowance will be provided.
* This is a hybrid role combining office, site, and home working (one home‑working day per week unless otherwise agreed).

Qualifications
