We have an exciting opportunity for a Portage Practitioner to join our friendly, dynamic, and experienced team within the Kent Portage Service.
The Kent Portage Service is a county-wide educational service supporting children with SEND in their homes, community and early years provisions.
We are a diverse and experienced team delivering a blended model of support and transition through face-to-face and virtual sessions.
As part of the role, you will:
1. Deliver home-based and group learning sessions to children with SEND and their families in a variety of locations.
2. Support transitions into early years provisions.
3. Work flexibly across home, office, community, and virtual environments.
4. Assess a childs development using appropriate tools, then develop targets and strategies to meet their educational needs.
5. Plan, deliver, and evaluate interventions tailored to each childs developmental needs.
6. Support parents and professionals to implement recommendations and review progress.
7. Liaise with a range of professionals, working collaboratively to support the educational development of individual children.
8. Offer advice and guidance in line with the Local Offer.
9. Organise and chair meetings with professionals and families.
10. Write reports and complete relevant documentation to a high standard for sharing with families and professionals.
11. Work predominantly in West/North Kent, but could be asked to travel and work in a wider area on occasion.
About You
Were looking for someone who:
12. Is educated to an NVQ Level 3 in Childcare (or equivalent)
13. Holds GCSEs (Grade 49) in English and Maths
14. Has a strong understanding of child development and experience working with very young children with SEND.
15. Can adapt play-based learning to meet individual developmental levels.
16. Is self-motivated, organised, and able to prioritise effectively.
17. Have a working knowledge of Microsoft applications including outlook, word and excel.

Interviews are scheduled for Thursday 23rd and Friday 24th October 2025 and will include a 10 minute presentation. The title of which will be shared if you are shortlisted, as part of the interview process.
