The Head of Public Confidence and Assurance will be responsible for holding North Yorkshire Police (NYP) and North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service (NYFRS) to account. This role ensures that both services contribute meaningfully to inclusivity and public confidence. The postholder will oversee service projects and change initiatives, aiming to maximise return on investment and improve performance within the constraints of time, finance, and risk. A key aspect of the role involves implementing a responsive, evidence-based approach to scrutiny and assurance, while also contributing to the development of the Police & Crime Plan and the Fire & Rescue Plan. We are at the start of our journey and with this provides an opportunity to shape the role and the function and through shared corporate leadership influence across the Combined Authority, all with one shared goal to maximise the efficacy of public services and investment for the benefit of our great region. You will work closely with other senior leaders, especially Head of Partnership and Commissioning to achieve clarity, consistency and integration of services and programmes. You will establish your credibility as a trusted adviser, a real advocate driven by integrity and public sector ethos with the community at the very heart of what drives you. People will seek you out and actively to work with you to drive change, a positive influencer. The role leads several critical functions. It oversees the Public Confidence and Assurance (Police Fire and Crime) Customer Service function, which includes independent scrutiny panels, standards, integrity, complaints and compliments related to police and fire services, Deputy Mayor casework, and other related responsibilities. It also leads the PFC Inclusivity and Public Confidence function, overseeing joint programmes that promote equality, diversity, inclusivity, and human rights compliance, with the goal of improving community trust and confidence in the services. You will have previously worked at a senior management level, demonstrating strategic decision-making capabilities and a proven ability to develop effective solutions. A strong understanding of public sector operations, including collaborative partnership working, is essential. Experience at a senior level in scrutiny, accountability, and oversight - whether in the public, private, voluntary, or government sectors - is required.
