Overview
SLR have a strong, well-established water team, distributed widely throughout our UK office network. The team has extensive experience working in sectors including the commercial and residential development, mining, waste, and energy sectors. We are looking to expand the team with the appointment of an early career Hydrologist, either joining as a Graduate in their first commercial role, or with some degree of experience seeking an opportunity to progress. This position presents an outstanding opportunity to join a large team of flood management specialists and hydrologists and be part of a wider group which also comprises hydrogeologists, geomorphologists and geochemists.
Role and responsibilities
* Work alongside experienced hydrologists to prepare flood risk assessments, flood management strategies, and outline Sustainable Drainage (SuDS) designs for projects principally in the built environment, minerals and power sectors.
* Undertake field-based work and prepare water chapters for Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Reports and Environmental Appraisals.
* Develop good client relationships and communicate with a wide range of stakeholders (externally and internally) as an essential aspect of the role.
* Contribute to growing the profile of the successful candidate and increasing the pipeline of work in the region.
* Work on projects and site investigations across the UK, with possible temporary periods away from home for several days at a time.
Qualifications and requirements
* Masters degree in Hydrology, Flood Risk, Water Resources Management, Civil Engineering or similar (MSc or MEng) with a genuine passion for applying knowledge to challenges in the water environment.
* Competency or awareness of one or more numerical hydrological modelling packages is desirable (e.g., Micro-Drainage, GoldSim, Hec-RAS, Flood Modeller Pro, TuFlow). Familiarity with ArcGIS or QGIS.
* Experience in undertaking and managing field work.
* Ability to work as part of a team and build strong professional relationships with clients and colleagues.
* Excellent report writing skills and literacy.
* Ability to structure and prioritise work effectively, both independently and as part of a team.
* A full driving licence valid in the UK.
