From heating systems in our schools to essential electrical services across our estate, the Building Design Team keeps Lancashire running. We are looking for a skilled and motivated Building Services Engineer to maintain safe, efficient, and high‑quality environments for the people who live, learn, and work in our buildings. The role involves responding to building services issues, supporting projects, and collaborating with technical specialists across the council to deliver reliable engineering solutions.
Responsibilities
* Respond to building services issues such as heating, hot water and electrical failures, ensuring timely and compliant contractor engagement.
* Manage small‑scale Building Services projects, delivering on time, within budget and to LCC’s quality expectations.
* Provide technical advice and support to colleagues, contractors and wider services across the Council.
* Work proactively with multidisciplinary teams, contributing to problem‑solving and effective engineering solutions.
* Act as Duty Engineer on a rota system, providing a first point of contact for reactive service calls.
Qualifications
* Recognised vocational or professional qualification in Building Services, plus broad experience in the field (membership of a Professional Institute desirable).
* Experience in building services maintenance or project work, ideally within the public sector.
* Strong knowledge of Building Services principles, applications and regulatory standards, with good analytical and problem‑solving capability.
* Ability to work proactively in a multidisciplinary team, with strong communication and interpersonal skills.

* Must have a car for use in connection with the duties of this post and must be insured for business use. We may consider candidates who cannot drive because of a disability.
* Required to apply to the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) for a 'disclosure' if successful, as the post is covered by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (as amended in 2013).
