Job Summary

This Band 7 registered children's nurse position supports the Paediatric Epilepsy/Neurology Service at Darent Valley Hospital. The role requires enthusiasm, motivation, and innovative practice to work across paediatrics, providing clinical, specialist, and holistic support to children and young people.
Job Responsibilities
* Run joint and nurse‑led clinics with consultant colleagues.
* Manage a caseload of children and young people with epilepsy.
* Act as the point of contact for the epilepsy service, supporting families.
* Provide specialised advice and support on epilepsy management.
* Review patients on the children's acute ward and in the outpatient setting.
* Deliver clinical and educational support to staff within the Trust.
Person Specification
Essential Qualifications
* Registered Children's Nurse
* Teaching or mentorship qualification
* Completed or willing to undertake a qualification in the management of children with epilepsy
* Evidence of continuing professional development
Desirable Qualifications
* PET 1 course
* Non‑medical prescribing
Experience
* Minimum 2 years post‑registration experience in paediatrics at Band 6
* Experience managing families and children with epilepsy
* Previous experience in teaching patients and staff
* Awareness of delivering research‑evidence‑based practice
Desirable Experience
* Previous nurse specialist experience, including running nurse‑led clinics
* Experience undertaking PDRs and day‑to‑day supervision of staff
* Previous experience in audit and evaluation
Knowledge and Skills
* Up‑to‑date knowledge of paediatric epilepsy, including national policies and guidelines
* Ability to communicate complex and sensitive information effectively
* Prioritises own workload efficiently
* Understanding of the holistic needs of children, young people and families with epilepsy
