For over 50 years, Citizens Advice North East Derbyshire has provided free, independent and impartial advice to residents across North East Derbyshire and Bolsover District, supporting people at the point of need through partnerships with GP surgeries, community venues and Derbyshire Public Health.

We continue to evolve in response to modern challenges, including energy affordability and environmental sustainability, through specialist energy advice that helps residents manage rising fuel costs and move towards a more energy efficient future.


Role Description

The Debt and Money Advice Manager will oversee the delivery of effective and high-quality debt and money advice services to clients. Responsibilities include managing a team of advisors, providing guidance on financial solutions, overseeing casework, and ensuring compliance with regulations and best practices. The manager will also contribute to the strategic development of financial support services and coordinate with external organizations to enhance service delivery. This is a full‑time hybrid role based in Clay Cross, with flexibility for some remote work.


Management

* Monitor project and service performance against objectives, reporting outcomes and impacts to the Chief Officers and stakeholders.
* Ensure the effective performance management and development of direct reports through regular supervision, appraisals, and learning plans.
* Create a positive working environment in which equality and diversity are well‑managed, dignity at work is upheld and all staff/volunteers are supported to do their best.
* Present at, lead, and contribute to internal meetings, ensuring that key information is communicated clearly and consistently across teams.
* Maintain accurate project records and documentation, producing updates, case studies and evaluation reports for funders and partners.
* Monitor training needs and ensure all direct reports receive appropriate induction, mandatory training and opportunities for development.
* Represent the organisation externally by attending and presenting at meetings, events and forums with key funders or partners.
* Assist with recruitment processes, including drafting job descriptions, managing adverts, shortlisting, interviews and onboarding.
* Promote growth and effectively manage change within an established team and organisation.
* Work across the organisation to promote and integrate debt and money advice best practices to benefit all projects.


Advice giving/Casework

* Interview clients using sensitive listening and questioning skills in order to allow clients to explain their problem(s) and empower them to set their own priorities.
* Use appropriate resources to find, interpret and communicate the relevant information to clients.
* Research and explore options and implications so that clients can make informed decisions.
* Act for the client where necessary by calculating, negotiating, drafting or writing letters and telephoning.
* Negotiate with third parties such as statutory and non‑statutory bodies as appropriate.
* Ensure that all work conforms to the organisation’s office manual and the Advice Quality standard / Legal Aid Agency’s Quality Mark / other funding requirements, as appropriate.
* Ensure that work reflects and supports the Citizens Advice service’s equality and diversity strategy.
* Maintain detailed case records for the purpose of continuity of casework, information retrieval, statistical monitoring and report preparation.


Administration

* Attend relevant internal and external meetings as agreed with the line manager.
* Prepare for and attend supervisor session/team meetings/staff meetings as appropriate.
* Use IT for statistical recording of information relating to research and campaigns and funding requirements, record keeping and document production.
* Ensure all work conforms to the organisation’s systems and procedures.


Other

* Complete required training to comply with quality assurance processes.
* Carry out any task that may be within the scope of the post to ensure the effective delivery and development of the service.
* Assist with research and campaigns work by providing information as appropriate.
* Have an awareness of safeguarding issues and experience of working to safeguarding policies.
* Keep up to date with legislation, policies and procedures and undertake appropriate training.
* Authorise expenses and purchases on behalf of staff/volunteers in line with organisational procedures.
* When requested, attend trustee board meetings and contribute reports, updates, and insights into operational performance and project progress.
