A quick look at the role.
Responsible for the setup, monitoring, and optimisation of effluent treatment processes across the HDPE3 and recycling plants, ensuring legal compliance and environmental best practice. You'll analyse influent and effluent quality, manage chemical dosing, and drive continuous improvement to maximise efficiency and minimise operating costs. The role includes regulatory reporting and acting as the main contact for compliance matters with Sembcorp and the Environment Agency. A solid understanding of environmental chemistry and water testing techniques is essential.
Your core responsibilities.
* Monitor and optimise effluent treatment plant performance, resolving dosing or process issues as they arise
* Sample and analyse effluent daily to ensure compliance with discharge consents and permit limits
* Investigate and address non-compliance events, adjusting processes and validating results
* Train and support operations teams on effective effluent treatment procedures
* Maintain accurate records and ensure analytical methods meet industry standards
* Liaise with Sembcorp, the Environment Agency, and other stakeholders on compliance matters
* Manage contractors and coordinate related activities including permits, isolations, and validations
* Support environmental reporting, cost tracking, and site improvement projects
Requirements
Our essential requirements.
* A-level in a relevant subject, with a degree or equivalent experience in environmental or scientific fields
* Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
* Experience in effluent treatment, environmental monitoring, or scientific analysis
* Familiarity with analytical techniques and interpreting environmental data
* Understanding of waste industry legislation and regulatory compliance
* Desirable: IOSH, CoTC/NVQ in Waste Management, or other H&S-related training
