SEN Teaching Assistant | Special School in Watford | September Start

Supply Desk is currently seeking a compassionate and motivated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming special school in Watford from September. This is a full-time role, perfect for someone who is passionate about supporting students with a range of special educational needs (SEN), including Autism (ASD), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
The school is committed to delivering a personalised and inclusive curriculum that empowers every student to achieve their full potential in a supportive and nurturing environment.
* Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEN to help them access the curriculum.
* Assist in implementing personalised learning plans and strategies based on EHCPs.
* Support students with communication, sensory, and behavioural needs using appropriate tools and techniques (e.g. PECS, Makaton, visual schedules).
* Encourage student independence, confidence, and social skills through structured routines and positive reinforcement.
* Assist the teacher in delivering engaging, adapted lessons and classroom activities.
* Help maintain a calm, inclusive and supportive classroom environment.
* Support with personal care tasks where necessary, ensuring the dignity and safety of pupils.
* Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and parents to provide consistent and effective support.
* Have experience working with children or young people with SEN (preferred but not essential).
* Be empathetic, patient, and passionate about supporting students with additional needs.
* Be flexible and adaptable to meet the varying needs of pupils.
* Have excellent communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
* Be resilient and confident in managing challenging behaviours positively and constructively.
* Hold or be willing to obtain an enhanced DBS check.
* Be open to relevant training (e.g. Autism awareness, safeguarding, de-escalation strategies).
