We are recruiting Band 6 Charge Nurses / Deputy Ward Managers to join our newly redeveloped Children and Young People’s Mental Health Inpatient Unit reopening in Autumn 2026.
Following extensive co-design with young people, families and staff — alongside major investment in the therapeutic model, workforce and environment — this is an exciting opportunity to be part of a modern, compassionate and recovery-focused inpatient service for young people aged 12–18.

The role
As a Band 6 Charge Nurse / Deputy Ward Manager, you’ll provide senior clinical leadership on shift and support the Ward Manager with the day-to-day running of the ward.
You’ll play an important role in ensuring care is:
* Therapeutic
Working closely with the wider MDT, you will
* Undertake mental health and risk assessments for young people with complex needs
* Deliver trauma-informed and person-centred nursing interventions
* Act as named nurse and contribute to care reviews and tribunals
* Lead shifts and support clinical decision-making
* Coordinate staffing and care delivery during shifts
* Support supervision, mentoring and development of junior staff and students
* Work collaboratively with families, carers and partner agencies
* Contribute to quality improvement, governance and service development
* Support discharge planning and continuity of care
This is a hands-on clinical leadership role where you’ll have real influence on the ward environment and team culture.

The redesigned CAMHS inpatient model includes:
* Purposeful admissions with early review points
* A structured 7-day therapeutic timetable including evenings and weekends
* Strong links with the COAST Crisis Outreach Team
* Enhanced MDT working and safe staffing
* Trauma-informed and autism-aware approaches
* Focus on reducing restrictive practice and improving outcomes
