The Opportunity We are seeking an experienced High Voltage Authorised Person (HVAP) to join a state:of:the:art data centre, supporting mission:critical infrastructure in a high:performance, zero:tolerance environment.
This is a pivotal role where you will act as a guardian of electrical safety, compliance, and operational continuity. Working alongside the Engineering Shift Leader and Building Engineering Supervisor, you will take ownership of high:voltage systems, planned maintenance, and incident response.
Operating on a continental shift pattern, this position offers autonomy, technical variety, and exposure to advanced critical electrical infrastructure, where precision and safety are essential.
Role Overview As a Data Centre HVAP Technician, you will be responsible for the safe operation, maintenance, and control of high:voltage electrical systems.
You will ensure maximum uptime, lead switching operations, and maintain strict compliance with industry regulations and safe systems of work.
Key Responsibilities Critical Engineering and Operations
: Deliver Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance across electrical and building systems
: Act as the site HVAP, carrying out switching, isolations, and high:risk operations
: Prepare and execute switching schedules, SOPs, and EOPs
: Respond to BMS alarms and critical incidents, diagnosing faults and restoring services efficiently
: Maintain uptime and resilience of mission:critical infrastructure
Safety, Compliance and Control
: Manage and administer the Permit to Work (PTW) system
: Prepare and review Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS)
: Ensure compliance with Health and Safety legislation and Safe Systems of Work (SSOW)
: Maintain water systems in line with L8 (Legionella) regulations
: Supervise contractors and specialist vendors to ensure safe and compliant delivery
Operational Support and Reporting
: Support incident management during faults, outages, and emergency scenarios
: Maintain availability of critical spares and materials
: Accurately record maintenance activities using CAFM systems (e.g. REALM)
: Produce clear technical reports and documentation
: Build effective relationships with internal teams and stakeholders
Continuous Improvement and Development
: Participate in ongoing training and professional development
: Maintain high operational and safety standards
: Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
: Promote a culture of safety, compliance, and operational excellence
Essential Requirements
: Current High Voltage Authorised Person (HVAP) status
: 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (or equivalent)
: NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
: Emergency First Aid at Work certification
: Proven experience in data centres, critical environments, or high:availability facilities
: Strong understanding of electrical systems, switching procedures, and fault management
: Good knowledge of Health and Safety legislation within engineering environments
: Ability to work effectively under pressure in mission:critical settings
