Cost Engineer | London | VC-Backed Hardware Scale-Up | £75,000–£90,000 + equity
I'm partnering with a high-growth, VC-backed business building complex physical product at scale. They're hiring a Cost Engineer to join a growing team and play an integral role in embedding cost into every decision the company makes from early design through to supplier negotiation and programme delivery.
This is a genuinely exciting opportunity for someone ready to build a function from scratch, partner across engineering, finance, supply chain and programme teams, and see their work directly shape gross margin and unit economics.
You responsibilities will include;
* Owning target costing and running cost/weight trade-off studies across product and production
* Building and maintaining cost models that create transparency on drivers across the business
* Acting as the critical interface between finance and the wider business, making sure cost is embedded in every decision
* Partnering with supply chain on tendering, should-cost challenge and supplier negotiation
* Supporting the programme team in preparing competitive offers and cost estimates
What I'm looking for
* Degree in industrial, manufacturing or mechanical engineering from a strong university
* Hands-on experience with cost modelling, parametric estimation or cost engineering
* Strong understanding of cost drivers in both product design and production
* Comfortable with ambiguity and excited by the chance to build a function from scratch
* Likely 5+ years' experience, though attitude and track record matter more than years
You will have worked within a similar industry and have a passion to work for a fast growing business where you can make a real difference.
