About The Role

Are you a dedicated healthcare professional with a specialised interest in Infection Prevention and Control? Are you looking for an additional role that can harness your expertise and make a difference? This is a unique opportunity to provide expert leadership, assurance and operational coordination for prevention, preparedness, detection, response and recovery related to communicable disease incidents and outbreaks in GP, OOH and IUC settings.

Ensuring Compliance With

* Health and Social Care Act 2008: Code of Practice (IPC Code).
* UKHSA Communicable Disease Outbreak Management Guidance (incl. Toolkits for risk assessment, IMT, investigation, setting‑specific management, communications, and auditable standards).
* NHS England National IPC Manual (NIPCM) and IPC Board Assurance Framework (BAF).
* CQC expectations for IPC in General Practice.
* Health & Safety legislation (COSHH for biological agents; RIDDOR reporting where applicable).

This is a part‑time role approximately 7 to 10 hours per week. Site based in our Worcester office.

What you'll be doing

* Preparedness & Governance - Lead organisation‑wide IPC governance by maintaining outbreak plans, embedding national standards, ensuring compliant policies/SOPs, and providing Board‑level assurance.
* Surveillance, Early Detection & Notification - Oversee proportionate surveillance across GP/OOH/IUC services, apply UKHSA outbreak thresholds, and ensure timely notifications and regulatory reporting.
* Incident/Outbreak Response (IMT Leadership) - Chair or co‑chair IMTs, lead risk assessments, implement evidence‑based control measures, coordinate occupational health and COSHH compliance.
* Communications & Stakeholder Management - Deliver clear, timely incident communications for staff, patients, and partners, ensuring alignment with UKHSA/NHSE messaging and effective coordination with ICB and local stakeholders.
* Audit, Assurance & Learning - Run a comprehensive IPC audit programme, produce outbreak reports and debriefs, drive continuous improvement, and evidence compliance with CQC and IPC Code requirements.
* Education & Workforce Capability - Design and deliver IPC and outbreak‑response training, and coach IPC link clinicians and operational leads to build sustainable capability.
* Environment, Decontamination & Cleanliness - Ensure cleaning, decontamination, waste, and water‑safety standards meet national requirements and are effectively monitored.
* Data, Reporting & Documentation - Maintain complete, auditable documentation and provide IPC assurance reporting to stakeholders.

What we’ll look for in you

* Registered healthcare professional (e.g., RN, AHP, Pharmacist, GP) with post‑graduate IPC qualification or equivalent experience.
* Evidence of training in outbreak management/health protection (e.g., UKHSA/IPS short courses).
* Significant IPC practice in primary/urgent care or community settings, including leading or coordinating IMTs.
* Demonstrable experience implementing the IPC Code, NIPCM, and using the IPC BAF for assurance.
* Familiarity with CQC inspection requirements for GP practices.
* Expert knowledge of UKHSA outbreak guidance and toolkits; able to apply risk assessment models to primary care/urgent care contexts.
* Strong command of NICE CG139/QS61 (SICPs, device care, sharps safety, PPE, waste).
* Working knowledge of COSHH (biological agents) and RIDDOR reporting thresholds.
* Data literacy (line listing, epi curves, interpreting surveillance signals) and report writing to auditable standards.
* Confident chairing IMTs, managing multi‑agency communications, and leading debriefs/lessons learned.
