Overview
The central timetabling team is a key service provider for the University. Responsible for the successful delivery of academic calendars and their ongoing refinement, as well as the room booking service for the University, this role is a key member of the IT Services department and provides essential support for faculties and departments. You will act as a bridge between the timetabling team and the stakeholder community, ensuring the timetable meets institutional needs, lead a high‑performing team, and manage the needs of the wider service across the department.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
* Lead the timetabling of academic teaching space to reinforce an excellent student experience.
* Support the development and enhancement of timetabling policy, processes and systems in line with the University’s strategic aims.
* Collaborate and liaise closely with academic Schools, Departments and Professional Services to maintain consistency across the University.
* Develop and implement a consistent, principles‑led approach to the timetabling of academic teaching space.
* Evaluate existing timetabling policies and processes, maintaining up‑to‑date knowledge of best practices.
* Apply expert knowledge to difficult timetabling problems and devise innovative solutions.
* Plan for, manage and mitigate the impact of changes to the teaching timetable.
* Ensure the timely and effective publication of student and staff timetables.
* Use metrics and stakeholder feedback to continuously improve processes and guidance.
* Prepare and provide management information and reports, presenting findings at relevant groups and committees.
* Be the business owner of the University timetabling system, develop and train staff, explore technical solutions and make recommendations on system changes.
* Carry out other duties commensurate with the grade and remit of the post.

Essential criteria for this role include:
* Experience of leading, coaching, and developing teams.
* Experience in a timetabling and space booking environment.
* Exceptional communication skills with experience managing expectations and delivering clear updates to stakeholders.
* Demonstrated capability to unblock issues and facilitate solutions to complex delivery challenges.
* Commitment to driving ongoing performance improvements and creating a culture of learning and development.
* Strategic thinking to align service delivery with institutional needs.
* Ability to influence stakeholders to pursue appropriate requirements.

Grade: 8
Salary: £48,822–£58,225 per annum with the potential to progress to £65,509 through sustained exceptional contribution.
