Senior Consultant, EIA - Transmission & Distribution (London & South East)
Senior Consultant role within the Environmental Consents team focusing on energy transmission & distribution (T&D) projects in the UK, including hydrogen transmission networks and CCUS initiatives. The role supports development and upgrade of energy and electricity infrastructure through strategic planning, environmental advice, and technical studies, contributing to planning applications, Environmental Assessment (EA) / Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), route optioneering, site selection, stakeholder engagement, and support for DCO examinations and planning inquiries.
Responsibilities
* Play a key role in growing our energy T&D sector offer, working with sector leads and client account managers to drive thought leadership and win new business.
* Provide environmental advice and support to clients, project managers and colleagues.
* Work with colleagues, environmental specialists, clients and engineering teams to promote sustainable design and environmental enhancement.
* Manage the delivery of a diverse range of environmental inputs into energy T&D projects including planning applications, EA / EIA, route optioneering, site selection, stakeholder engagement, and support for DCO examinations and planning inquiries.
* Manage projects, overseeing performance on technical, quality, commercial, and health and safety aspects.
* Build relationships with clients and identify opportunities to support resourcing, programming, strategy development and project delivery.
* Undertake activities to secure new work, including preparing proposals and contributing to strategic-bid preparation.
* Support the development of innovative techniques (e.g., Digital EIA, Technical Excellence, Future Ready EIA).
* Inspire and upskill junior colleagues to support their career development.

* Contribute towards the success of the WSP business strategy and be self-motivated toward relevant goals for the role, team and projects.
What We Will Be Looking For You To Demonstrate…
* A relevant environmental degree level qualification in EIA, or similar.
* Progress towards Practitioner or Chartered Environmental Status and Full membership of ISEP (formerly IEMA), or a similar qualification with a relevant professional body.
* Experience of undertaking Environmental Assessment for energy T&D schemes with limited supervision within a multi-disciplinary team, including under UK planning regimes (e.g., Electricity Act, Town and Country Planning Act, Planning Act 2008).
* Familiarity with consenting processes for energy and electricity T&D projects (e.g., Habitats Regulations Assessment, Environmental Permit applications, Marine applications).
* Ability to coordinate tasks to ensure timely submission of deliverables and subsequent reviews.
* Experience in managing relationships with clients, external bodies and organisations.
* Ability to lead and contribute to meetings with the wider technical team, clients and stakeholders.
* Experience coordinating environmental surveys to support an EA / EIA for energy T&D schemes, with knowledge of Health and Safety requirements.
* Proven ability to deliver projects or tasks on time and to budget within business management procedures.
* Excellent written and verbal communication, strong report writing and review capabilities, attention to detail, and commitment to quality assurance.
* Sound knowledge of relevant environmental and planning legislation.
