Plymouth, South West England, PL5 1BL : Portsmouth, South East England, PO2 8EP Job Summary The Director of Submarine’s Health, Safety and Environmental Protection Assurance Officer role is an exciting opportunity for you to play an important role in supporting the delivery of the Directorate’s Safety and Environmental Management Plan across a significant portfolio of activities in generating the in-service Submarine Force. This role form’s part Director Submarines’ HS&EP Cell and will co-ordinate and record assurance activities across Director Submarine’s Portfolio. In Navy Command, our civil servants work alongside their military colleagues in jobs that matter; jobs which often have a direct impact on the quality of the operational capabilities we deliver. Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and home-based working. This is a non-contractual arrangement where all office-based employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in office, subject to capacity and any required workplace adjustments. Requirements to attend other locations for official business, or work in another MOD office, will also count towards this level of attendance. Job Description As the Directorates’ Health, Safety and Environmental Assurance Officer you will be responsible for: Co-ordinate and plan a programme of assurance audits looking at safety and environmental compliance within the Submarine Domain, reporting to the HSEP Manager Conduct data gathering on safety performance as determined by organisations SEMP and assure safety and environmental regulatory compliance, with non-conformances identified and corrective action tracked on behalf of the HSEP Manager. The HS&EP Assurance Officer is accountable to the HS&EP Manager. This post has no Line Manager responsibility. Experience In an auditing role. Knowledge and understanding of ISO 45001/9001 Essential Qualifications NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Safety and Health or equivalent. Functional Competency Framework for Safety and Environment Professionals in Defence: Inspection, Audit and Assurance The ability to undertake planned activity to afford confidence in the compliance of the safety and/or environment (assurance) through checks on processes and performance data (audit), that required inspections are completed, with emphasis on the following: Assess, interpret and provide meaningful feedback from audits and assurance activities to facilitate continuous improvement. Produce reports for senior managers with conclusions and recommendations. Assist HS&EP manager as focal point for third party external audits, producing action plan for corrective action and continual improvement.
