Job summary
The Practice Development (PDM) Midwife is a proactive midwifery leader, teacher, and role model hosted by the Family Health Division to work across NUH maternity services, developing best practices related to student midwifery practice education to ensure the successful achievement of professional registration upon training completion.
Main duties include acting as a visible resource for support and advice for senior midwives, education leads, practice supervisors/assessors, and managers, especially concerning competence and capability issues related to students and practice staff.

JOB SUMMARY
The Practice Development (PDM) Midwife is a proactive midwifery leader, teacher, and role model hosted by the Family Health Division to work across NUH maternity services, developing best practices related to student midwifery practice education to ensure the successful achievement of professional registration upon training completion.
The PDM leads on developing excellence in practice education for student midwives and other learners, ensuring high-quality education and preparation for NMC assessments. They are accountable for providing support during clinical placements, including delivering a robust student induction process.
The post holder ensures compliance with NMC Standards Framework for nursing and midwifery education, facilitating effective theory and practice learning and assessments. They respond to evolving national and regulatory guidance, ensuring educators, assessors, and supervisors are equipped with necessary skills. They are a visible clinical leader, accessible to education leads, midwives, senior leaders, and practice staff.
They respond to individual learning needs, ensuring practice assessors and supervisors receive high-quality training aligned with NMC guidance and ongoing support. They involve education leads and senior midwives in developing, delivering, and evaluating practice learning and support systems. Leading by example, they drive up standards of midwifery education, ensuring quality, well-being, and pastoral support for students and learners.
The post involves working in partnership with regulatory bodies and HEI partners to maintain robust governance, resolve issues, and uphold high standards, enhancing NUH's reputation as an education provider and employer of choice.
They provide leadership, advice, and support, fostering a learning culture that values high-quality patient care, evidence-based practice, research, and innovation. Collaborating with regional education leads, trust practice development midwives, senior midwives, matrons, and department managers, they share best practices and implement strategies to improve student and staff satisfaction, retention, recruitment, and multidisciplinary teamwork. They ensure systems and processes are in place to maintain high standards of education, research, and clinical care.
