The Pensions Ombudsman is seeking one or more Lawyers to join our in‑house Legal Team in Canary Wharf. The role is permanent, full‑time or part‑time, with a competitive starting salary of £69,398 per annum, rising to £74,861 after probation.

Who Are We?
The Pensions Ombudsman is an independent body, not part of the pensions industry or government. We investigate complaints about pension administration and have full, enforceable legal powers.
Purpose of the Role
The role supports the Pensions Ombudsman, Executive Committee and Corporate Board in exercising functions under relevant legislation, policies and practices.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide legal advice on complex cases, ensuring decisions are grounded in sound legal analysis and consistent with prior decisions.
* Support colleagues on legal, procedural and regulatory matters relating to investigations.
* Draft determinations for review by the Ombudsman or Deputy Ombudsman.
* Prepare or review correspondence, including to Members of Parliament and regulatory bodies.
* Act as a sounding board, identifying and mitigating reputational, regulatory and litigation risks.
* Assist on policy matters such as consultation papers, legislative changes and stakeholder agreements.
* Handle appeals, review claim forms and strategy, liaise with courts and parties, attend hearings when required.
* Represent the Ombudsman at external stakeholder events.
* Keep up‑to‑date on professional knowledge and maintain high customer‑care standards.
* Maintain databases and information‑recording systems.
* Support the priorities and objectives of the Legal Team.
* Undertake other duties as required.
Experience
Experience in pensions, financial services litigation, dispute resolution, regulatory law, criminal law or public law would be an advantage.
