Overview

Due to an internal promotion, an exciting opportunity has arisen for an Audiologist with a keen interest in paediatric audiology to join our large and dynamic team. This role is suitable for an early Audiology professional or new graduate to begin a journey as a Paediatric Audiologist. Training will cover paediatric assessment and paediatric rehabilitation in children from 6 months of age, with support from current Paediatric Audiologists before working independently with an own caseload.

The role is chiefly clinical, involving a full range of paediatric assessments and rehabilitation challenges, with some service development responsibilities. The aim is for you to grow and develop as a paediatric audiologist within a team that continually strives to improve.

The training initially focuses on hearing assessment in children aged 5+, then expands to younger children and paediatric hearing aids. Once confident, you will lead and assist on behavioural hearing assessment clinics and on hearing aid reviews in children from 6 months of age, and assist with new paediatric hearing aid fittings and routine hearing aid reviews in infants.

Service locations and hours

Alongside our main site at St Thomas' we run regular clinics at satellite sites in Gracefield Gardens (Lambeth), Sunshine House (Southwark) and Kaleidoscope (Lewisham).

The majority of the clinical team work compressed hours (08:00-18:00) across 4 days; typically the post holder would be based at St Thomas' 2-3 days a week and at a satellite clinic 1-2 days a week.

About the service

The Children & Young People’s Audiology Centre in St Thomas' Hospital is recognised as a comprehensive non-consultant led audiological centre providing high-quality services for children in South East London. We have developed an innovative specialist hearing assessment service for autistic and complex needs children known as Hummingbird Clinic and participate in national and international research projects. The service is a UKAS accredited medical diagnostic service No. 9980.
