Together, these gardens comprise one of the richest plant collections on earth.\n\nWe are excited to announce that, with philanthropic support from Baillie Gifford, the Holywood Trust, Lady Elliottâs Charitable Trust and the Finnis Scott Foundation, we have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic person with an interest in gardening, horticulture and the outdoors to work and train in our Garden at Logan in Dumfries & Galloway as a Modern Horticulture Apprentice. Modern apprenticeships are primarily for those aged 16-24 years old, although there is no upper age limit. During the two-year placement, you will learn all aspects of horticulture and spend time in each area of the Garden at Logan. As well as gaining practical horticulture experience, you will also attend SRUC on a block release basis where you will work towards gaining a horticultural-related qualification. The ideal candidate should be able to understand both verbal and written instructions and demonstrate strong written communication skills to complete work records accurately and neatly. They should be friendly, polite, and approachable, displaying effective communication with colleagues, managers, and visitors. With guidance, they should be capable of planning and organising daily work routines, adapting to changing priorities and showing a willingness to take on new tasks. They should be able to handle routine problems positively, with support from their line manager. Basic computer skills are required, along with a genuine interest in plants and a desire to pursue a career in horticulture. The candidate should also be keen to study towards a horticultural qualification and be comfortable working outdoors throughout the year.
