Siemens Energy Transmission Services deliver systems to the energy industry that provide for safe operation and monitoring of power systems and equipment using a range of innovative products. Transmission solutions are primarily for the UK market. Additionally, we serve as the centre of competence for AC offshore substations for Siemens Energy, extending our expertise to global offshore AC substation solutions. On DC technology, we collaborate with Siemens Energy in Hamburg to develop solutions and deliver DC projects in the UK.
This exciting role will be part of the UK Erection and Commissioning (EC) team, reporting directly to the EC Operations and Planning Manager.
While we offer a flexible working policy, there will be a need to work from our Manchester office regularly.
We are seeking an experienced Erection & Commissioning Bid Manager to support Siemens Energy Transmission Solutions (EC) by delivering comprehensive and competitive estimates for mechanical, electrical, and commissioning site installations. This role involves liaising with the bid capture team and fostering collaboration across departments including proposals, commercial, operations, engineering, quality, planning, and procurement.
How You'll Make an Impact
* Serve as the point of contact and coordinate site-related topics within the bid team.
* Define the optimal setup for site project execution with the Pre-Delivery Manager and develop estimating programs, producing estimates based on contractual data, financial requirements, scope of work, and services.
* Analyze specifications, scope documents, drawings, blueprints, bills of material, and historical data to calculate project costs using labor and material pricing schedules.
* Prepare estimates using work breakdown structures and coding of accounts.
* Maintain close liaison with planning and scheduling teams, providing necessary input.
* Work with cost controllers to monitor project costs and produce preliminary cost curves for clients.
* Evaluate site-related project risks, scope changes, contract values, cost trends, field orders, and trade-offs. Participate in lessons learned workshops and incorporate findings into new bids.
* Negotiate with customers, subcontractors, and consortium partners.
* Prepare Q-Gate documentation and present to EC Management for approval of project costs and risk assessments prior to bid submission.
* Work with your mentor to develop your knowledge and participate in the high-performance program.
* Support EC management with additional tasks and improvement initiatives.
What You Bring
* Educational background with GCSEs level 4 and above, including Maths & English.
* Experience in internal site substation estimating roles.
* Minimum 5 years of experience working on substation or HVDC construction sites, preferably in a leading position, with advanced knowledge of construction and commissioning concepts.
* Excellent communication and organizational skills.
* Proven ability to manage deadlines and work under pressure.
* Strong attention to detail.
* Excellent planning and organizational capabilities.
* Initiative and ability to work independently.
* Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools.
* Strong team player qualities with intercultural sensitivity, initiative, result, and quality orientation.
