Overview
As a Domestic Assistant you will be responsible for keeping wards, offices, and public areas clean to a high standard. You will work as part of the domestic service team, as well as part of the wider community within the hospital setting.
There is typically a combination of full‑time and part‑time roles available, and you are more than likely to have a set shift pattern.
Responsibilities
* Cleaning patients’ or service users’ rooms/wards.
* Cleaning toilets and bathroom areas.
* Cleaning communal areas, such as lounges, dining areas and corridors.
* Cleaning utility rooms.
* Carrying out deep‑cleaning operations in certain areas.
* Using the most appropriate cleaning equipment for the task (vacuum cleaner, mops, or electric floor cleaner).
* Using cleaning products and other chemicals safely and effectively.
* Keeping up to date with safety procedures such as fire procedures and escape routes, and undertaking appropriate workplace training.
* Ensuring infection control policies are adhered to.
* Working as part of a team, using a degree of initiative to prioritise and organise daily duties, whilst always maintaining a professional approach.
Qualifications
* No formal entry requirement; however completion of NVQ Level 1 in cleaning is preferable.
* Good communication skills and a caring, sensitive nature.
* Physical fitness: you may be on your feet for long periods of time and need knowledge of proper lifting and manual handling techniques.
Employment Details
Hours: 14:30 – 21:00 with a 30‑minute break = 30 hours per week.
Training: On start, you will attend an induction and all relevant training will be given.
