Role Purpose
An opportunity for a mechanical or structural engineer with a composites background to join the delivery team on a large high‑profile design project delivering into the maritime defence sector.
The role will be responsible for activities relating to the verification and validation of composite structural and non‑structural components from coupon testing through to large assemblies. The engineer will be expected to work with other teams supporting the development of both bonded and bolted composite joints and the design of the composite‑to‑metal interface.
The successful candidate will have experience in verification and validation of composite structures using pre‑preg and resin infusion techniques.
The candidate will have a proven track record of delivering to time and budget on complex programmes and an ability to work independently and critically review their own work. The candidate will also be involved in the peer reviewing of other engineering work packages in support of their colleagues.
Key Accountabilities
* Provide effective leadership and coordination of the engineering and technical activities to deliver specific projects.
* Use subject‑matter expertise and sound engineering judgement to solve problems.
* Break down complex tasks and execute the planned schedule of work.
* Work with the Project Management community to task and control work conducted by technical teams.
* Manage the project/programme to undertake the work within the agreed quality, timescale and budget.
* Demonstrate expected values and behaviours through example.
* Develop capabilities in your areas of work and mentor others.
* Actively participate and encourage increased collaboration across the Group and wider technical teams.
* Work with other functions (e.g. Technical Excellence; Safety Engineering) to deliver the technical programme of work that complies with statutory, regulatory, company, business and project‑specific processes and procedures.
* Give technical presentations and talk knowledgeably about the work conducted in external forums, including conferences and in customer meetings.
* Ensure projects/programmes are conducted safely, highlighting hazards and providing options to reduce risk.
* Apply governance consistently across projects and act as a peer reviewer where suitable.

* Previous experience of working in a multidisciplinary project team.
* Excellent understanding in engineering equivalent to someone who has completed a BEng/MEng in Mechanical Engineering or Structural Engineering and who has experience of structural design to recognised codes of practice either Maritime or Civil.
* Applicant should be, or be working towards, a Chartered Engineer.
Requirements
Due to the nature of the work, the candidate must be a UK national and have or be able to obtain security clearance to the appropriate level.
