Job Description
Clinical Negligence Solicitor – Chelmsford
What's in it for you?
* Join a specialist claimant-only tier 1 clinical negligence practice - no PI, no dabbling, no conflicts
* Excellent supervision and training from experienced Solicitors (ideal if you want to build this specialism properly)
* Real work-life balance: 9:00am-5:15pm, no weekends, no late nights
* Hybrid working: up to 2 days from home once settled
* Competitive junior salary (NQ circa £40k) plus:
o BUPA private healthcare
o 5% pension contribution
o Practising certificate paid
o External training and development
o Discretionary annual bonus based on contribution and time recording - not billing targets
* Supportive, close-knit team where quality of work and team fit actually matter
The role:
An established claimant clinical negligence firm is looking to recruit a Junior Clinical Negligence Fee Earner (NQ-4 PQE) into its growing team.
This is a true junior role, ideal for someone at the early stages of their career who wants to develop long-term within clinical negligence. Extensive clin neg experience is not required - the firm offers strong supervision, structured training and genuine support.
You'll be working exclusively on claimant clinical negligence matters in a sensitive, high-quality environment where the focus is on doing the work properly, not chasing billing targets.
There is one vacancy only and the firm is selective due to the nature of the work and team structure.
About you:
* Qualified Solicitor or junior Fee Earner (NQ-4 PQE)
* Some litigation experience is strongly preferred
* A genuine interest in clinical negligence (either existing exposure or clear motivation to specialise)
* Strong communication skills and a professional, empathetic approach
* Looking to develop within a specialist team rather than "job hop"
Please note: candidates with backgrounds solely in trust/probate or conveyancing are unlikely to be suitable.
Working pattern & culture:
* Full-time role only
* Office hours: 9:00am - 5:15pm, Monday to Friday
* Hybrid working available (Monday and Wednesday are office days)
* Newly Qualified Solicitors are expected to be office-based more frequently initially
* No weekend or evening work
* No on-site parking, but season tickets for nearby car parks can be arranged if required
The interview process is informal and human - an initial meeting followed by a second-stage conversation with team members. No tests, no gimmicks.
Next steps:
This role is being handled exclusively and, on a quality,-over-quantity basis. If you're an early-career lawyer looking to build a serious future in claimant clinical negligence within a supportive, specialist environment, this is well worth a conversation.
