The role
As a Senior Design Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You’ll be at the forefront of advanced mechanical design, supporting the UK’s nuclear deterrent and contributing to national security. You’ll lead a small team of engineers, guiding the design process for refit support equipment used in submarine systems. This is a unique opportunity to work on complex, high‑integrity engineering challenges that span mechanical, fluid, and nuclear‑adjacent systems.
Day‑to‑day, you’ll lead and mentor design engineers, develop advanced mechanical solutions, perform technical analysis, and ensure compliance through cross‑disciplinary collaboration.
Responsibilities
 * Leading and mentoring a team of design engineers, reviewing and checking their work.
 * Creating and developing advanced mechanical designs using CAD and simulation tools.
 * Producing technical reports and documentation to support engineering decisions.
 * Conducting calculations and technical analysis for pressure systems and fluid flow.
 * Collaborating across disciplines to ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
Essential Experience
 * Proven mechanical design experience in a professional engineering environment.
 * Demonstrated ability to lead and manage engineering teams.
 * Strong understanding of regulatory frameworks and health and safety legislation.
 * Experience in highly regulated industries such as rail, aviation, oil & gas.
 * Knowledge of pressure systems, CAD, component simulation, fluid flow analysis, or submarine system design.
Qualifications
 * Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent qualification/experience.
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NNPPI) security clearance for this role.
