Help us grow our inclusive online community and inspire women across the UK to explore the outdoors, through creative, engaging social media content.
What difference will you make?
Your work will help Adventure Queens create a welcoming and inclusive online space that encourages more women to explore the outdoors. We’re a volunteer-led, grassroots organisation aiming to remove barriers to adventure – whether that’s fear, lack of experience, or a feeling of not belonging. Our social media channels are often the first place people discover us, and they play a huge role in helping members feel welcome, supported and inspired. By leading our social media, you will Build connection across our 16k+ community of women Increase visibility of our free events, grants and projects that support women facing additional barriers Share stories that help others feel confident in giving adventure a go Amplify voices that are underrepresented in the outdoors Support our volunteers by showcasing their incredible work You’ll be helping shift perceptions of who adventure is for – and showing that the outdoors is for everyone.
What are we looking for?
We’re looking for someone who enjoys social media, understands how to create engaging content, and is excited about building an inclusive online community. Ideally, you’ll have some experience managing social media accounts for a brand, community, campaign or cause – whether paid or voluntary – and feel comfortable using tools like Instagram, Facebook and Canva (or similar design tools). If you’ve used scheduling tools like Meta Business Suite, Buffer or similar, even better. If you haven’t, that’s okay. If you're organised, creative, and up for learning as you go, we’d still love to hear from you. We’d love you to have A good eye for visuals and an understanding of what makes a scroll-stopping post or Reel A friendly, conversational writing style – you can write captions that are clear, friendly and on brand Awareness of what makes social media feel welcoming and inclusive The ability to plan ahead and stay organised Confidence using digital tools (e.g. Canva, Google Drive, WhatsApp, Zoom) We work collaboratively, so being a good communicator and team player is important. We value kindness, communication, and a willingness to get stuck in. You don’t need to be a seasoned adventurer – just someone who shares our belief that the outdoors should be open to everyone.
What will you be doing?
We’re looking for a creative, reliable volunteer to manage our Instagram, Facebook and Linkedin channels – creating and scheduling posts, engaging with our community, and supporting campaigns like our annual Adventure Queens Grant. You’ll be working closely with our small team of Comms & Marketing volunteers and our Community Lead. The Comms & Marketing team currently comprises a Comms Lead, Newsletter Queen, a Blog Queen and (soon) you - the Social Media Queen! We meet monthly via zoom and stay in touch through WhatsApp in between. This is a hands-on, practical role – from writing captions and designing visuals to replying to comments and shaping our online voice. We work as a team to generate content ideas, but we’re also open to your creativity. If you’ve got ideas for how to improve or expand our social presence, we’d love to hear them. Our social media tone is friendly, sassy and fun – a reflection of our community. We're approachable and upbeat, and we care deeply about making the outdoors more inclusive and welcoming. Key activities include Scheduling posts and working with the team to create a joined-up content calendar Creating graphics or reels using Canva or similar tools Engaging with followers via comments and DMs Supporting specific campaigns and promotions across the year There’s flexibility in how you approach the role, and we’re happy to tailor it to your skills and interests. Estimated time around 1–3 hours a week, depending on your availability. We get that life happens – we value open communication and trust. If you need to pause or step back temporarily, that’s absolutely okay.
