Environmental Advisor
for a tunnel construction project in South London,
100% on site
.
Project:
Heavy civils/tunnelling works
Contract length:
6 months (with the intention to redeploy to other projects on completion)
Working hours:
Monday–Friday, :40 hours/week (
occasional out-of-hours or weekend work
may be required to support possessions/monitoring)
Role purpose:
Ensure legal compliance and drive continual improvement of environmental performance on a live tunnel construction site, working closely with Delivery, Quality and Health & Safety (H&S) teams.
Responsibilities
* Develop, implement and maintain CEMP, SWMP and topic plans for noise, vibration, dust, water and biodiversity.
* Coordinate permits/consents (e.g. Section 61 under the Control of Pollution Act, discharge/abstraction consents, waste carrier/Duty of Care) and liaise with the Environment Agency and Local Authorities.
* Site monitoring and inspections: oversee checks for noise, vibration, dust and water quality/controlled discharges; record and track actions in SmartWaste or similar.
* Plan and deliver environmental training/toolbox talks; lead/assist incident and complaint investigations and follow-up actions.
* Review RAMS and method statements to embed environmental controls; champion innovation and carbon, water and waste reduction.
* Prepare and present environmental/sustainability reports for senior management and the client; support audits (internal/external) and ISO 14001 compliance.
* Contribute to CEEQUAL or similar sustainability requirements as needed.
Requirements
* Degree/Master's in Environmental Science/Management or closely related field (Engineering considered only where the primary experience is environmental on construction sites).
* 5+ years' recent UK experience as an Environmental Advisor/Engineer on site-based construction; tunnelling/heavy civils preferred.
* Proven delivery of ISO 14001, CEMP/SWMP, field monitoring and environmental audits, with strong report writing.
* Solid knowledge of UK environmental and H&S legislation and hands-on liaison with regulators (EA/Local Authority), including obtaining/maintaining Section 61 and other consents.
* CSCS card (or commitment to obtain before start) and right to work in the UK.
* Excellent written and verbal English; proficient with MS Office and environmental trackers (e.g. SmartWaste). (IEMA/NEBOSH Environmental desirable.)
